Villa san Giorgio is a large, welcoming
villa set on a hillside between Florence and
Siena, just a few kms.from Barberino Val
d'Elsa. Just a few years ago it was an
abandoned hayloft, but it has been rebuilt
meticulously to a very high standard by the
new owner; converting the old barn into a
warm and charming country home. The
interiors are wonderfully furnished with
modern and traditional Tuscan pieces. Also
retained are the beamed ceilings and the
terracotta floors. The spacious furnished
loggia, outside of the kitchen includes a
shaded area for al fresco dining. A
beautifully maintained garden surrounds
the house, ensuring complete privacy. Below
the hose is a very large pool, strategically
positioned to enjoy the best view.
The large kitchen is extremely well equipped
with a large fireplace and dining table. As in
every house of rural origin, it is perhaps the
main space, where the family gathered after
a day of work to enjoy those typical dishes
that we still find today on Tuscan tables.
Entering the living room, one realizes that
the person who restored this hose did it with
great care and passion. The floor is done in
old terracotta tiles, the ceiling in chestnut
beams, all authentic materials put together
anew using the techniques of long ago, and
with particular care towards the comforts of
contemporary living. One is impressed by
the attention paid to every detail - the
fireplace with the stone molding, the steps
and thresholds in chiseled "pietra serena",
and the decorated walls. Overlooking the
living room is a comfortable study / gallery
with two sofa beds.
On the balcony overlooking the pool, one
can sit and enjoy a drink or else lie in a
hammock, breathing in the cool evening air.
There is a fourth bathroom under this terrace
which also has a sauna.
