VILLA FERRAIA
TOCCHI
|
Sleeps 28
Villa Ferraia is located 26 km. south of Siena
and sits on a secluded mountaintop. Sienese
records of Borgo di Ferraia date back to 1204.
The name "Ferraia" originates from "ferro"
or iron, which was mined here in medieval
times. Devoid of electricity and running water,
this hamlet was inhabited until the start of
WWII. From that date forward, Villa Ferraia
fell into ruin. In 1995 the present owner began
purchase negotiations. Since that time, the
arduous task of restoration has been ongoing.
The hamlet is truly stunning, boasting AIR
CONDITIONED and centrally heated
accommodations for as many as 28 guests. A
state of the art kitchen with a wood burning
oven, a acres of organic vegetables and herb
gardens, and an 1800 sq. ft. greenhouse
greatly enhance the joy of Italian cooking.
Adjoining the vegetable gardens is an
outdoor kitchen and dining area where guests
can join the chef in cooking the fresh
vegetables in true Tuscan style. The pleasure
gained from preparing a meal from the
freshly picked vegetables can be enjoyed with
a fine Tuscan wine.
Star gazers will delight in the observatory
complete with a high tech telescope, far from
the light pollution of modern society.
A large, inviting, infinity swimming pool
overlooks the beautiful valley below. The
adjacent changing rooms and sauna are at the
guest's disposal. Strolling the lovely,
landscaped grounds is a pleasure in itself. For
the more adventurous, there are hiking trails
through the forest, which pass farm animals
including rare and ancient breeds of pigs,
sheep, the famous Chianina cows and two
private lakes, which have been stocked with
trout.
Tastefully simple, yet luxuriant, each
bedroom or suite boasts a flat screen TV, fine
linens and towels, Florentine soaps and
shampoos and private baths, all to ensure a
relaxing and comfortable stay. A telephone
and fax machine are available in the
reception area for emergency use only. The
glass encased Tuscan conservatory provides
the communal living space where guests can
gather and enjoy the beauty of the gardens
and surrounding forests while enjoying a
leisurely aperitif before dinner. A separate
medieval building houses the library, a state
of the art cinema and lounges to relax and
enjoy a movie or a book. There are several
secluded sitting areas which can be used for
moments of solitude.
Breakfast is served in the timber beamed,
spacious dining room each morning or on one
of the outdoor terraces, depending on the
weather. Guests can enjoy strong Italian
coffee, fresh fruits and juices, yogurt, eggs
and an assortment of fine breads (vegetarian
and other special dietary requests will be
accommodated for all meals with advance
notice). Dinner can be a superb Tuscan
culinary experience with all of the
vegetables and meat being supplied from our
organic farm. One evening, the traditional
wood fired oven can be lit and the chef will
prepare tasty pizzas which can be eaten on a
beautiful terrace that has splendid views of
the sun setting over the forest below. Villa
Ferraia exudes such tranquility and natural
beauty that it will be very tempting to just
stay there, enjoying the fresh air, walking
through the forest, toiling in the garden with
the gardener, assisting the chef to prepare
dinner or simply lazing around and listening
to the sounds of nature.
