Driving up the white road, at the top of
the hill sits Le Prugnole. Recently
restored by two Roman doctors as their
private country retreat, there are
sweeping views of the Val d' Orcia
below and Pienza in the distance. This
part of Tuscany is famous for its wines,
medieval hill towns, Renaissance art
treasures, and monasteries. The recently
restored Fonte Viva Spa in San
Casciano dei Bagni is less than an hour
away. Here you can take the hot thermal
baths, have a mud wrap or a massage.
Elegantly furnished living areas open out
the covered terrace where you can dine al
fresco while enjoying the panoramica.
The stone paved front yard, where sheep
were formerly kept, is surrounded by low
walls covered with climbing roses and
vines. On the other side of one wall is a
12 ft. wide special heated whirlpool.
The high quality décor includes many
antiques and period pieces, making for a
very comfortable home. On the ground
floor, a spacious living room, with its
baby grand piano and fireplace, opens
onto the covered dining area. The country
kitchen is fully equipped with modern
appliances. There is also a kitchen fireplace
for grilling meats and vegetables. The
kitchen then opens through an arch into the
dining room. Also on this level is a study,
laundry room and a half bath.
A stone staircase leads you to a second
sitting room. Around the fireplace is a
comfortable sofa and chairs. A master
bedroom with a king sized bed and en-suite
bath is off of this room. There are three
other double bedrooms off of the hallway
furnished in antiques, and two baths.
Maid service is included. Cook available
on request.
Distances: Pienza and Monticchiello are less
than 10 minutes, Montepulciano - 15 min.,
Siena, Orvieto, Perugia and Cortona are less
than 1 hour away.
