Cetona, but equally want privacy and
seclusion in particularly lovely settings.
Cetona is an evocative name, known by
the cognoscenti as somewhere very special
- yet usually passed by as yet another
road off of the Florence / Rome autostrada.
The reality is a very beautiful and
relatively undiscovered hill town. Narrow
winding cobbled streets with enchanting
glimpses of the green countryside lead to
trattorias frequented by not only the local
clientele, but the beau monde of Rome,
who have long had country homes here
discretely hidden away. In Cetona it is
easy to be absorbed into the truly Italian
way of life, and even well traveled
Italophiles have loved their first time in
this enchanting town. The approach from
Cetona has intriguing glimpses through the
trees of the drive, finally opening up as one
arrives to reveal the most lovely views
imaginable - Cetona, nestling on a hillside
across a green valley - far enough to ensure
privacy, but near enough to be a complete
surprise. Walking to the house is particularly
lovely, with a green valley and wooded hills
as a backdrop on the south side - but
always the view of Cetona. This elegant
house is furnished in a mixture of
contemporary and rustic, and is ideal for
modern living, with the spacious ground
floor room all connecting and with French
doors leading to the terrace. The pretty
conservatory makes a lovely place to sit and
the master bedroom has its own balcony
for reading or writing. The owner, who
lives unobtrusively next door, is a
passionate gardener and the huge terra cotta
pots either with lemon trees or overflowing
with flowers are always admired. The gardens
contain shrubs and mature trees leading to the
pool area, where there are lovely views of the
surrounding countryside. Sitting on the terrace,
as dusk falls with the scent of flowers and stars
above is truly romantic, minutes away from
Cetona's piazza for a drink, or dinner in a restaurant.
