This property belongs to the son of one of
the owners. He is a painter and the house
has an artistic touch to it which makes it
different from the other houses on the
estate. It is located off by itself,
overlooking the valley. The house is
reached over a white road which starts at
Chiarentana, reaches La Casaccia after 1
km., and continues through the property
to the bottom of the valley. Here you will
find space, lightness, and essential
furnishings, an assemblage put together by
the owner and his wife over the last few
years. The style of the house is
characterized by a clever use of
Mediterranean colorings.
In the garden, there is a table for dining al
fresco. At the rear of the house, a group of
loosely set oaks offer a shady retreat for hot
summer afternoons.. Paths leading from the
house invite you for wonderful walks
through the property and beyond.
You will be interested in the history of the
house, especially if you have read Iris Origo's
book War in the Val d'Orcia. The farmers
who lived here during WW II, were active
with the Partisans who hid in the forests
around La Foce, and their house was used for
secret meetings as well as for the storage of
small arms. The guests of La Casaccia have
the use of the pool at Chiarentana, which is a
3 minute drive away
The house was built after a model designed
by Cecil Pinsent in the 1920s, which adopts
the traditional features of Tuscan farmhouses,
with stables and store rooms on the ground
floor and living quarters upstairs. The plan of
the house has not been altered since, with the
living quarter reached by an external staircase.
At the center of the house are the kitchen and
the very large living room, which both look out
over the Val d' Orcia. The living room's
decoration is marked by three windows
overlooking the valley, a fireplace, and two
comfortable sofas, and another large table
where you can write, read, or play games. The
house also has four bedrooms and two baths.
It is equipped with a baby cot, high chair and
walking pen.
