VILLA AMIRA
PORTOFINO
|
Sleeps 10
Portofino is a picturesque harbor village,
known as "the pearl of Tigullio", and is
renowned throughout the world, thanks to
the exceptional beauty of the deep blue sea,
the luxurious Mediterranean vegetation and
the famous "piazzetta" with its exclusive
boutiques, bars, cafes and restaurants.
The natural protected area of the promontory
of Portofino has been an attraction for
centuries with its mild climate and high
cliffs dropping to the sea. This area is very
special with its happy mix of glamorous yet
relaxed people, luxury villas, natural trails,
village fairs, castle walks, yacht harbor, and
everywhere, the turquoise sea. Anyone who
stays in Portofino must know how to adapt
to the rhythms of a city that is entirely for
pedestrians. It is best to stay here without a
car and use public transportation. The local
train runs from Santa Margherita Ligure to
Cinque Terre and there is a bus from Santa
Margherita every 20 minutes. However,
there is an underground parking garage at the
top end of the town.
Villa Amira, built in the traditional Ligurian
style with a slate roof and green shutters, has
a large terrace shaded by a century old
wisteria. It is furnished with elegance in a
contemporary style. The villa is entirely
protected and offers absolute privacy,
something rare in this popular area. A private
elevator connects the harbor with the walking
path that goes to the lighthouse and Amira is
located along this path about 300 meters from
the elevator. The villa cannot be seen from
the road or footpath where one finds the
entrance gate and stairway down (32 steps)
through a rock garden to the lovely terrace
that offers a striking view of the bay. It is set
high above the sea, about 150 steps down,
yet you can walk down to a private stone
platform that gives direct access to the sea.
The villa is built on two levels, with a
panoramic sun deck on top and picture
windows to take advantage of the views. On
the upper level are a spacious living room ,
with a sliding glass door onto the wisteria
covered main terrace. Also on this floor is a
formal dining room and a fully equipped
kitchen. The living room leads to a studio
and the sleeping area. On the right side,
overlooking the sea, there is a queen size
double bedroom, a twin bedroom and a
single bedroom. There are two baths and
another queen size bedroom. All of the
bedrooms on this level have AIR
CONDITIONING. An even better view is
available from the upper terrace, which is
situated on a rocky ledge.
On the lower level is a twin bedroom, a single
bedroom, bath and laundry room along with a
staff bedroom with its own bath. The house
contains 4300 sq. ft. of living space.
