Set high on a hillside, there can be few
smaller houses that offer such a degree of
privacy, a glorious view of sky, blue sea
and the charming town of Porto Santo
Stefano and its ancient Spanish fortress
below - while being surrounded by a
backdrop of hills and the "macchia
mediterranea", wild untamed and
completely natural vegetation,
wonderful for walking or exploring.
Originally an 18th century agricultural
worker's home, it is now renovated and
painted in a classic Argentario dark ochre,
covered with an evergreen shrub which in
May is covered with white scented flowers.
This delightful conversion has been
finished to a high standard by its
meticulous owner, and is decorated and
furnished with a mixture of period and
contemporary furnishings and materials.
The cozy living room with an open
fireplace and large French doors to the
terrace, leads up some steps to the dining
area and a very well equipped small kitchen.
A very large master bedroom / study /
library with bookshelves and large desk
serves as a peaceful retreat, ideal for a
writer, or executive who has to "keep in
touch" with the outside world. Upstairs,
one of the bedrooms with a brass bed has
beautiful views over the pool and the
panorama below. It separate upstairs and
downstairs living makes Corbezzolo ideal
for two couples vacationing together
wanting privacy. Set on 10 acres of
grounds, green lawns surround the house,
with a pretty gazebo and barbeque for
outside al fresco dining. Set well away
from the house, with sunbeds and fridge for
drinks is the pool area, with its simply
fabulous view and surrounded by
fashionable decking. The quiet and feeling
of nature from the unspoiled landscape of
the hills surrounding Corbezzolo is its most
truly memorable feature, yet enhance by the
fact that the owner walks to the nearby
town every day for fresh bread. The
delightful maid is a good local cook, her
fisherman husband supplying fresh fish for
succulent meals for guests.
